Unchained Vibes Africa (UVA) is a cultural organization and social enterprise developing arts and culture projects geared towards social causes. Our mission is to leverage the power of the arts for civic education and promote good governance, human rights, cultural diversity and the spirit of solidarity in Africa. We produce works of art that address social, political, economic and environmental issues in Africa using music, drama, visual arts, spoken word poetry and comedy. UVA helps artists and cultural practitioners to further develop their skills and managerial capacities. We design workshops and professional training in cultural advocacy, copyright protection, entrepreneurship, etc. UVA organizes concerts, talk shows and live performances that highlight social issues, create awareness and sensitize the public. We develop initiatives that encourage respect for cultural diversity and promote intercultural understanding.
About the Role
The Program Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating UVA’s cultural and advocacy programs. The individual will work at the intersection of arts and social causes, leveraging the power of the arts to drive social change and advance artistic freedom. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong advocacy skills, a deep understanding of cultural preservation, and the ability to lead and manage projects from conception to completion.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Successful Candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding the team, managing resources, and ensuring that UVA’s initiatives have a meaningful and lasting impact. A successful candidate is also expected to be equipped with the skills and experience to advance the organization’s mission effectively.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Management:
– Design, develop, and manage UVA’s cultural and advocacy programs.
– Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program activities.
– Ensure that program objectives are met, and outcomes are achieved within the specified timelines.
– Develop program strategies that align with UVA’s mission and goals.
- Advocacy and Policy Influence:
– Lead and coordinate advocacy campaigns that advance artistic freedom and social change.
– Engage with policymakers, stakeholders, and partners to influence policy changes and promote cultural rights.
– Draft policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials to support UVA’s initiatives.
- Partnerships and Collaboration:
– Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with local, national, and international organizations.
– Work closely with artists, cultural practitioners, and CSO leaders to amplify advocacy efforts.
– Represent UVA in relevant forums, conferences, and meetings.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
– Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess program impact.
– Collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of programs.
– Prepare and submit regular reports on program progress to the Executive Producer and Stakeholders.
- Team Leadership and Management:
– Lead, mentor, and manage program staff, interns, and volunteers.
– Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
– Ensure that the team is aligned with UVA’s values and mission.
- Communication and Public Relations:
– Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness about UVA’s programs and advocacy efforts.
– Manage UVA’s digital platforms, including website, social media, and newsletters.
– Engage with the media to promote UVA’s work and highlight key issues related to artistic freedom and social justice.
Key Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in arts, Cultural Studies, Social Sciences, Human Rights, or a related discipline ( A Bachelor’s degree in Project Management in the Arts and Culture field with 7 years of experience working at the intersection of arts and social causes will be considered as equivalent to a Master’s degree)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, preferably in cultural or advocacy settings.
- Advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong interest in arts and culture, and civic engagements.
- Strong advocacy and policy analysis skills.
- Proven track record of successful advocacy campaigns and policy influence.
- Experience in managing cultural programs and working with artists and cultural practitioners.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in digital media and social media platforms.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional and detail oriented.
- Reliable and able to work independently.
- Flexible and adaptable in various situations as well as good interpersonal skills
Contract Type
9 months initial Fixed Term Contract (Renewable upon satisfactory performance and subject to availability of funding)
Salary Range
Very competitive and negotiable based on expertise and experience)
