Unchained Vibes Africa in partnership with the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) is dedicated to promoting literacy in Nigeria and beyond. On September 28th, we had the pleasure of hosting CORA Book Trek. In attendance were vibrant students from Ejidey Schools and Goodvine College, Magodo Shangisha, Lagos. The event featured a lively conversation with the author Nora Sanya, whose book "Dear Mother" was the featured book for the day.

Paradise Air: Longstay Residency Programme (Japan)

Paradise Air has held the Longstay Program under various themes and with different application requirements. The 10th edition of the program – under the theme ‘Puzzling Poly+Semy’ – is open to all people of all nationalities working in the arts field. The application will take place in two phases, with a shortlist of finalists invited to create a ‘video letter’ in early 2023 and final selected artists invited for a residency of 70-90 days in Matsudo, Japan.

It offers 4 promising African candidates based on the continent an opportunity to become a team member of a German museum and to pursue their own exhibition, educational or research project and contribute to the overall development of the museum, while at the same time building on their professional experience.

Unchained Vibes calls on the police to embrace dialogue with artists

The Executive Producer of Unchained Vibes Africa, Ayodele Ganiu, has called on the Nigerian Police Force not to enforce its new policy aimed at prosecuting movie and skit makers for using police uniform or portraying the police institution in movies and comedy skits without authorization. Speaking at the Youth and Policing Summit for southwest region hosted by the Network on Police Reforms in Nigeria (NOPRIN) in Lagos from 31st October – 1st November 2022, Ayodele advised the Police to change their approach from coercing artists to embracing dialogue. He noted that skit makers and filmmakers have massive followers and can be strategic partners with the police in improving the relationship between the police and the people, especially the youth, if properly engaged.

Freedom Vibes Poetry Concert Report

On April 30, 2022, at the end of the Democracy Vibes Summit organized by Unchained Vibes Africa, a special edition of Freedom Vibes Series was hosted – the Freedom Vibes Poetry Concert. The concert brought together leading Nigerian spoken word poets for a convergence with Afro-pop musicians to promote freedom of expression. It featured the best of performance poets in Nigeria including Dike Chuwumerije, Sage Hassan, RezThaPoet, Iquo Diana-Abasi and the invigorating spirit of the fast rising Victory Ashaka.
