Unchained Vibes Africa (UVA) is set to support Kano-based TikToker Badoo in an ongoing legal battle over his creative content. Badoo recently appeared in court, pleading not guilty to charges brought against him by the Kano State Censorship Board. The board claims that he violated censorship laws through content posted on his YouTube channel.

The content in question is part of a series called Cikin Aji (meaning “Inside the Classroom”), a collaborative effort by TikTok artists to create a classroom drama. The series aims to help the creators raise awareness for their content by blending humor and social commentary in a school setting.

During the court proceedings, the Censorship Board representative stated that five unspecified violations were identified in the material uploaded by Badoo. He argued that the content was not a film, but rather skits and short-form content. However, the judge classified the content as a film, creating confusion over the nature of the work.

The prosecution has agreed to either settle or proceed to trial. A meeting has been scheduled to explore the possibility of a settlement between both parties. If no settlement is reached, the case will proceed to trial.

Unchained Vibes Africa, known for its dedication to defending artistic freedom and free expression, is expected to lend its support to Badoo as the case continues.
